LASC History
Welcome to The Los Alamos Sportsmen's Club (LASC)
The Los Alamos Sportsmen's Club is an organization with over 500 memberships (individual and family). The Club provides instruction and a place to safely enjoy all shooting activities. Training in all forms of firearm handling and shooting provides our community with requisite skills for recreation, hunting, competition, and self protection. The Club currently has Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol, Archery, Silhouette, Cowboy Action, Machine Gun, Women's and Junior sections.
We are a member club of both the National Rifle Association and the Civilian Marksmenship Program and provide instruction on the fundamentals of marksmenship and firearms safety. Our Junior program is affiliated with the NRA and 4-H and provides instruction on safe and proper handling of firearms to our junior members. The Club offers several Hunter Education classes each year and makes the rifle range available each year for hunters to sight-in their hunting rifles. Many local groups, with Club permission, use the Club grounds and other facilities for picnics and meetings.
A Brief History.....
The Los Alamos Sportsmen's Club was formed by a few local citizens in October 1947. The format of the Club continues to be a single organization with several "sections", each related to some area of interest. The chairs of the various sections form the Board of Directors. Early Club structure comprised Hunting & Fishing, Conservation, Target Shooting, Archery, Membership, Program, Publicity, and Legal committees. The Board of Directors appears to have changed to something very much like the present structure in the early 1950's.
