Membership Renewal - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here are just a few questions that have been asked regarding the membership renewals.
Q: What does "NRA Exp" mean?
A: This is the most recent date on record with the club as to when your NRA membership expires. Club Membership discounts are based on active NRA memberships. So, please return your membership renewal letter with proof of an active NRA membership. You can do so by, by including a copy of your NRA card with your renewal letter and fees. You can cut off a mailing label from one of your NRA magazines. If you are not an NRA member, that is o.k. For those of you who are though, please update your information.
Q: My work credit hours indicate that I have 6 hours, when I didn't work any
A: You were born under a lucky star, I guess! Well, pretty much. 6 hours of work credit were given to certain members, based on the dates of birth of the primary membership holder in our database. Please see the work credit program on the website at: http://la-sc.org/workcredit/index.shtml. Members 70 years of age or older are exempt from the work credit program.
Q: Why do you need my date of birth?
A: We use these to determine two things: One, who needs badges (members older than 18) and two, which members are over 70 to receive a work credit exemption.
Q: My work credit hours are incorrect or missing.
A: Please note the correction(tasks, events, hours) on the back of the letter that was sent to you. We'll make sure those hours are reported to the Wook Coordinator as well. Deduct the hours volunteered at a rate of $10/hr (up to 6 hours), and subtract that from your fees. Mail in the updated form and dues.
Q: Why is it important to get my work credit hours accurate?
A: The club is operated and maintained completely by volunteer hours. It is important to get an accurate picture of the level of effort required to manage the club.
Q: When will I get the new combination to the gates?
A: The club combination changes on 4/1/10. For renewals that are received by 3/26, a letter will be sent out on 3/29 with new combination. After that, we will be sending them out in batches every couple of weeks or so.
Q: When will I get my new badge(s)?
A: Good question! We are switching to a new badging system to reduce costs associated with having to re-key the club on a regular basis. The new badge will be your "key" to club house. This way, when members terminate their membership, we can remove their access and the rest of the members can continue using accessing the clubhouse without having to change the lock or exchanging 600 keys every year. A new locking mechanism will be installed on the clubhouse in the coming weeks for the new system. Consequently, In the next few months, we will be doing a "key exchange". Bring in your key, show us your pearly whites, and get a new badge. We will put together a schedule of days, times, locations of when you can get your new badge.
Q: "pearly whites?"
A: Yup! The new badges are photo ID based. Adult members of the club will have their picture taken and printed on their badge. This is also why it will take a bit longer to get everyone ID'd. This will only need to be done the first time you get a badge. Thereafter, we can use the same photo for subsequent printings.
Q: What if I don't get a new badge and the lock is changed?
A: Don't worry. We'll have a period of when both the key and the new badge will work, but you better get a new badge quickly, because the ability to use a key won't last long once we start on the new badging process.
Q: Membership renewals were sent out, and I didn't get a chance to volunteer
A: Sorry! Given the lateness in getting out the letters, we just took care of them as they were coming off the printer. There will be more opportunities to help out. We have TWO more batches to send out in the next two weeks. Also, we are going to try and send out hardcopy bulletins to those folks that can't/don't want to get online to read the bulletin on a more frequent basis. If you can't make it to a clean-up day, there is still more to do!
Q: Can't we just do our renewals online?
A: Patience grasshopper! It is in the works, along with the ability to change your e-mail address. We are working on setting up an e-commerce site for memberships. If we go to an online system, we need to reduce the amount of information gathered in one place for security/privacy reasons.
