General Range Rules
- Always treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
- Never point a firearm at anything that you do not want to destroy. Keep the muzzle pointed down range at all times.
- All firearms will be unloaded and made safe before anyone goes forward of the firing line. No firearms will be handled while anyone is down range.
- Firearms may be loaded only when the shooter is on the firing line.
- Know what your target is and what is behind your target before you shoot.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
- Anyone on the range, whether shooter, observer, or instructor, has the authority to call for a "CEASE FIRE" if they observe an unsafe act or condition.
- Alcohol is prohibited on all firing ranges. No person will be permitted to shoot on any range if impaired by drugs or alcohol.
- Eye and ear protection is mandatory during firing.
- Live ammunition must not be discarded on the range or in the trash
- Glass and pyrotechnic targets are prohibited.
- Tracer, armor piercing, and incendiary ammunition is prohibited.
- Tracers are a fire hazard and we have to worry about that here. Besides, they work best at night and the range is closed then!*
- Event-specific rules may be adopted for LASC sanctioned events.
- Remember no .50 caliber BMG of any kind is to be shot at the gongs. Someone has already put a hole in the armor plate gong that we paid A LOT for! We had expected this armor plate to last for years, so we paid a premium for the special steel. The 50 BMGs also just have too much energy for the gong mounts etc. (50 AE pistol & 50 cal muzzle loaders are OK).
*Tracers and metal piercing rounds are NOT allowed on the ranges.
There is also the safety issue that penetrator cores in armor piercing ammo can spall off on bullet impact and become a serious ricochet problem. Normal bullets just deform or splatter. Anything marked Armor Piercing is certainly out of bounds. There is no problem with "normal" FMJ loads. However, a lot of the 7.62x39 (SKS/AK47) surplus ammo is also steel core (i.e. mild armor piercing). This stuff will shoot through a light armor, so please don't destroy our expensive gongs with it! Since its hard to tell what's what in surplus ammo, PLEASE don't use this surplus ammo on gongs unless you are sure it is LEAD CORE, not STEEL CORE.
