What counts for volunteer labor?
The following list is meant to be illustrative, not exhaustive.
- Participation in the Spring and Fall Clean-up days
- On-going club activities
- Running a Rifle Silhouette Match.
- Running a Pistol Match
- Teaching a course
- Serving on the LASC Board
- Maintenance and improvement activities between Clean-up Days.
- While we expect participation in the cleanup days will increase, it is our expectation that much of the volunteer work can be and will be performed outside of those days. For example, with the grading of the parking lot, we will need to construct both steps and a walk-way from the upper parking lot to the lower parking lot. If a club member wished to take the responsibility for leading that activity, they can contact Marv Alme.
- Maintaining the traps and filling them with birds.
- Cleaning up the club-house.
- Steward Flicker is the Club House coordinator. He is the club member to thank for the targets and other supplies that are now available.
- A Board objective is to make the Clubhouse more attractive to women. The Board is open to suggestions as to how to achieve this. Improving the women's rest room is one obvious step. Better cleaning in the kitchen area is another step. It is Past-President's (Marv Alme) deeply held conviction that men, as a group, are willing to tolerate much more dirt than women. So, if women want us to clean up the club house and the men are indifferent, we will clean it up!
Q: Does the work requirement apply to each adult member? (That is, over 18 years old?) Or does it apply to the family collectively?
A: It applies to the family collectively. The requirement is 6 hours of volunteer work per membership. So a husband, wife and 18 year old need to work just two hours each, but a dad with a 7 year old son needs to work six hours. Part of the justification for this is that many of our costs are on a membership basis. In addition, the board wants to encourage family memberships--we want the kids to think of themselves as being part of the club.

Q: I am willing to help with the inspection and replacement of lights in the Club House. I do believe that this activity should be carried out by two people for safety reasons. How do I get another person to work with me?
A: One way is to recruit a club member that you know. A second way is to talk to a board member or section head, and let them help you find another voluntter to help. Or you can send a note to the Work Credit Coordinator, and he'll put the task on the list (if it's not there already), with you as the task coordinator. Hopefully a member reading the list will then contact you.

Q: What is the procedure for purchase/reimbursement for the fluorescent lights tubes? Is there a preferred place for purchasing these items?
A: Buy the replacements bulbs anywhere you wish. Make it easy for yourself. Supporting local merchants is good, so feel free to buy anywhere in Los Alamos County. If you happen to be in Santa Fe, and buy at Home Depot, that's fine. Mail the receipts to Angie Chipera, LASC, PO Box 953 and she will mail you a check. Enclose a short note explaining what supplies/materials you bought and what you were working on/fixing. For example, "I bought some turnbuckles to fix the _____."
