Junior Shooting Program
Youth_edited.jpg

The LASC Junior Program welcomes dedicated, committed youth between the ages of 8 and 18 to be a part of our shooting sports program. We have a great group of kids and are involved in every aspect of the shooting sports.

Goal

The goal of the Junior Shooting Program is to promote safe gun handling and marksmanship skills.

Activities

We shoot muzzleloader, shotgun, smallbore, rifle, archery, BB gun, and airgun.  In addition to our shooting activities, we also learn about orienteering, wildlife identification, and safe hunting practices.  We learn about cleaning and care of a firearm, ammunition, and firearm function.  So that the program doesn't get too boring, we trade off on activities.  That way everyone had a chance to do what they like best.  In general, we cover every aspect of the shooting and hunting sports, including ethics, responsibility, and attitude.

Community Involvement

We try to be involved in community events and service projects.  Running concession stands or setting up shooting galleries at community events, helping with the 4th of July Fireworks Show, etc.  We try to put our strengths toward helping the community.

Competitions

We try to compete in as many competitions as possible throughout the counties and state.  We participate in the New Mexico Youth Hunter Education Challenge on the state and national level.  (This is an exceptional experience for young shooters and a great opportunity for you to meet others with the same goals and interest as yourself.)

When and Where

We meet every Tuesday evening from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the indoor range at the Los Alamos Sportsmen's Club.  We have strict safety rules, and we value a good attitude.

Fees

We allow a one month acclimation period, and if you want to continue to be involved with the program, we ask for a $30.00 annual fee to help cover some of the ammunition and expenses.  (We do not provide ammunition or targets for shotgun activities.  However, the Sportsmen's Club fees for this activity are very reasonable and the sport is a lot of fun.)
